My 2010 Goals: Half-Year Assessment

At the beginning of the year, I posted my hopes for 2010. I'd like to make a quick six-month assessment.

1. More pay or a better job

I've had many interviews and am currently expecting a call back from a very promising prospect. This time next week, this item could be crossed off the list.

2. No more profanity

About half a year's worth of progress; I know only curse when it's funny or when I'm very angry. Now I just need to cut it further.

3. A better prayer and spiritual life

If possible, I've backslidden even more. At this point, I'm hoping the answer will fall into my lap; I'm lost.

4. Stability in my local area, my country, and the world

I haven't gotten to help out much in the community due to not having any money available and having all my energy sucked up by work. If I don't find more/better work soon, I'm going to volunteer at a place where I can learn some new skills for my résumé.

5. Reconciliation with brother

I met him at the local nerd shop and said 'hi'; he screamed 'DIE' at me, and then 'GET AWAY FROM ME, YOU PSYCHO'. So, unless he comes crawling back, I'm calling this item crossed-off as pointless.

6. Progress in editing my books

I just finished the first part of my slash-and-burn of The Golden Sands.

7. Personal strength and improvement

No comment; it's too early for me to objectively assess this.

8. A better car

We went looking and found a great lot, but though the cars were fantastic and only $3,500, that's $2,500 more than we have right now and we don't qualify for a loan. This will depend on how #1 goes.

9. Improvements in my mate's life

He's passed his driver's test and become comfortable with driving. He has definitely become more open and happy, although his flaws continue to sometimes snarl.

10. His: Movement toward college. Mine: Discovery of a higher purpose

He has begun EMS classes, and will eventually become an EMT and then a firefighter. He seems honestly excited about his prospects, and is enjoying the class.

No progress on my end.

See you in December.
